New Release
These files contain the (version 5.0 level) American Standard
Version TEXT module for the Online Bible. They do *NOT*
include the executible program files. Nor do these files
include any documentation.
All of the EXECUTIBLE files and DOCUMENTATION are included in
the file OLB61INS.ZIP (or later) .
The ASV (American Standard Version) has the distinction of
being the epitome of accuracy when it comes to English
translations. Unfortunately, because it is so accurate in
word for word translation, it is rather difficult to read
because of its choppiness. Add to that the fact it was
translated in 1901 and frequently uses archaic language (akin
to the KJV), and you can understand why it has not been very
popular in a nation of poor readers. In an effort to make it
more readable, the NASV (New American Standard Version) was
born.
For anyone heavily involved with working with JWs, you really
need a copy of the ASV in some form, because they will not
accept any other translation (other than their own, the New
World Translation) as reliable. Though I personally use and
prefer the NKJV, I resort to the ASV when studying with JWs.
